1.  Make sure that there is no disc in the tray and switch on the player.
2.  Cold start the player, by holding down the PLAY and STOP buttons on the player.
3.  You should see a set of language options.  Release the PLAY and STOP buttons.
4.  Select your language.
5.  Press REPEAT then the following codes for the required region the player is already set to (region you bought the player in) do not confuse this with the A-B button:

Region 1 - 2, 9, 3, 3, 4
Region 2 - 3, 8, 7, 6, 7
("E series M105", M205 and M305 users try: 57538)
Region 3 - 5, 6, 7, 3, 2
Region 4 - 7, 6, 8, 8, 4
Region 5 - 5, 3, 8, 1, 4
Region 6 - 2, 4, 4, 6, 2

6.  A code will appear, indicating the region setting of your player.
7.  Press 9 for region-free, or 1 for region 1, 2 for region 2, etc.
8.  Press OPEN/CLOSE on the Player to open the disc tray.  You may need to push the tray shut rather than use the player button, in order for the region not to be changed to 4 (M203).
9.  Press STANDBY (POWER) on the remote control to close the tray.  Next time the player is turned on it will set to the region specified.  If the player halts on the FBI Warnings, press Forward Search x2 or faster.

On some models, you will have the ability to disable Macrovision, but you will have to turn off the Quasi-PAL option and set the SCART output type to Video rather than RGB.

The 611 may not have Dolby 5.1 output after applying the hack, so you may need to change the PCM format to Dolby5.1 again.  The sound mode for digital (PCM or bitstream) can be set in the Setup mode, under Sound Setup.

You can reset the region setting from 9 to a specific region by setting PCM to bitstream again and DTS to ON.

For earlier M105 models, try the Thomson 3300 hack.

Another method for the M105:

1. Press the Repeat button on your remote control
NB: Do not confuse this with the Repeat A-B button.
2. Press the buttons 3, 8, 7, 6 and 7 on your remote control, in order one at a time.
3. The numbers 02 will be displayed on the top left of your onscreen display.
4. Press the 1 button on your remote control for region 1, 2 for region 2, and so on, or 9 for multi-region playback.
NB: The above step may be time sensitive and need to be performed quickly.
5. Press the Open button on your remote control.
NB: The above step may be time sensitive and need to be performed quickly.
6. After 15 seconds have elapsed, power off your player and then power on your player.

A button-press rate of 1 press per second is recommended.Don't take any notice of the numbers you see on screen - just press REPEAT, 3, 8, 7, 6, 7 *or* REPEAT, 5, 7, 5, 3, 8 (depending on which firmware version you have) and only then check to see whether "02" has appeared. You need to open up your player to check which firmware version you have.

If you have:

Firmware version 5.02C (or earlier), or 5.02Ea through 5.02Ed: use REPEAT, 3, 8, 7, 6, 7

Firmware version 5.02Ee (or later): use REPEAT, 5, 7, 5, 3, 8

Firmware version 5.02Da through 5.02E: you can't use this hack until you've upgraded your firmware to version 5.02Ee. See the website at http://www.709firmware.fsnet.co.uk for info.

MODEL(S) : METHOD : CONFIRMED?
M103, DVDP421 Quoted from a bulletin thread:

Here's a hack I found that works on my P421 (Region 1). It is the same as one listed for the Samsung M103. You need an Aiwa stereo remote control(or a programmable universal remote that is set to control an Aiwa receiver) that has both a sleep and a clock button on it. Turn on your P421 and open the tray. Aim the Aiwa remote at your player and press "sleep". Then press "clock" three times quickly. You will see a message on the front of the player that says "adjust". Now just put in the DVD you want to play and close the tray. Your player will be region free until you turn it off. Please note that you are performing a "cold start" on your player when you hit the "sleep" button and it returns all settings to their original factory presets. You will have to go into the setup menu and change everything back to your desired settings. I already had an Aiwa receiver and returned one P421 to the store because I thought it was malfunctioning (until I started searching for hacks and found out that Aiwa remotes use the same signals as the ones Samsung technicians use when working on their DVD players. You'll probably also get the language selection screen you saw when you first hooked up your P421 the next time you turn it on after performing the hack.

I would just like to verify this hack - after seeing it I bought a remote control from replacementremotes.com, (AIWA - I forget the model), and tried to apply the hack. Worked first time, and played one of my region 2 DVD's flawlessly. Now if anybody knows how to get past the units SVCD limitation (at least on my firmware version) it would be most appreciated

With the Aiwa remove ... it works with *any* that has the sleep and clock buttons. I've personally tried it with 3 aiwa remotes ...

Just note, you have to hold down the function button, and tap SLEEP (you'll get some diagnostic info and the firmware version ... mine's 6.10 and plays SVCDs fine (I've heard of limitations, but have never encountered them personally).

Anyway ... Just hold the function button, hit SLEEP then CLOCK three times.
